Modern Love

Rocking up like it’s 1990, Modern Love, self confessed ‘Dive Bar’ from the Drinksmith, named after the David Bowie song, from the 1983 Rock & Soul Album ‘Let’s Dance’, opens for business on the 24th September and you’re all invited. Modern Love aims to transport revellers back, 10 years, to a time when East London was brimming with rock & roll dive bars, leaving behind pristine cocktail bars and stylised speakeasy’s. Modern Love is a no frills, tell it as it is, Rock and Northern Soul bar, specialising in Whisky and also serving beer &  shots – or Bolier Makers to those in the know, picklebacks and 2 for £10 classic cocktails – and the glass wear? There isn’t any, all drinks are served straight up, in red frat cups – no fuss! The deco, or lack of, contributes to the party vibe, which is created by the live bands and DJ’s that will be performing every night of the week, which kicked off with Temper Trap on the 24th September. The stripped back wooden floor boards make cutting up a rug on the dance floor downstairs, easy and the chalkboard walls encourages even the most inartistic of us to get creative, whether this means doodling your mate’s next tattoo, playing a game of noughts & crosses or leaving your number for the person who just serenaded you with an air guitar from across the room. Food will be available all day. Hummos Brothers will be serving coffee & falafel wraps from 7am until 3pm. Big Apple Hot dogs will take over from 3pm until late offering ‘The Pimp Steak’ & ‘The Big Frank’ Hot Dogs – perfect pre-pub grub.
